Why I am Moving Back to New York

Why the Living Theatre Is Returning to New York by Judith Malina (founder) & Hanon Reznikov (director). I saw this piece performed at a 9/11 memorial at St. Mark’s Church and loved it. I’d been looking for it for a while and finally found a full transcript of it. My favorite line:

because Woody Allen is there.
because there’s no place like home.
because I want to be there when my uncle comes out of the closet.
because Californians don.t understand sarcasm.
because Stanford is a cultural wasteland.
because Chinese food should be 24/7.
because Strand makes me happy.
because I.m done with this.
because subways are the only way to travel.
because it has seasons.
because my mother is never going to learn to drive.

because Rocky Horror just isn.t the same.

because the Panorama of the City of New York is cooler than your mom.

because the Olympics are coming.
because there’s gonna be another subway series.

because SoMa is SoHo 10 years ago.
because we’ve got the art.
because it’s going to be underwater before you know it.
because I’ve never had a Gray’s Papaya.
