Melissa bought me a kindle for my birthday, and I’ve been loving reading on it. There are a few pain points for me — the lack of user customizable screensavers (fixed with a hack), poor collection management and poor instapaper integration. I’ve worked on solutions to each of those — I’ve made a few of my own screensavers, written a python script to do bulk collection management from the desktop (except you need to reboot every time you modify collections.json) and written a script to bundle collections of webpages or rss feeds into a book (that won’t be overwritten by weekly periodical pushes).
The first bit of code I’ve cleaned up is the ebook maker, hosted at https://github.com/blackmad/Ebook-Maker based on code from http://code.google.com/p/python-epub-builder/
Using it (and some one-off python hacking), I made books out of each of the longform best-of-2010 categories
This isn’t a great check-in, gohome has dotfiles and binary files checked in, and betterbookmarks needs the tagsoup jar but I’ll fix that tomorrow when I’m not completely exhausted.
Also, none of the source is commented or logical, planning to clean it up this weekend.
